Guatemala Scholarship Partners

How to throw a lifeline to Mayan youth living in poverty

The Scholarship Partners consists of many individual donors who have committed to supporting these Mayan youth year after year.

Since 2007, they have raised money to ensure that 60 students per year can complete their programs in six years.

Some donors contribute on a yearly basis and many monthly.

The average cost per student per year is

$85/month  or $1,000 /year

Donations can be made through this link to Donorbox using credit card, automatic bank withdrawal or PayPal.

Or checks can be written out directly to Digno with “Guatemala Scholarship” in the memo line.

The grants given to families vary depending on their level of poverty. Every family must contribute something no matter how poor.

Grants are given for the following expenses:

  • Tuition (public school only goes to sixth grade.)
  • Transportation (students to school and parents to general assemblies)
  • School uniforms and shoes
  • Books, notebooks, pencils, tools
  • Food and medicine
  • Board and Room for those living too far away
  • Field trips and special classes provided by ADIVIMA staff to teach students about their history
  • The tutor’s salary to ensure that students don’t fail and drop out
  • Other expenses have included internet service for on-line classes

Without the scholarship, these young women would have been obligated to marry in their early teens and continue the cycle of poverty in which they live.
